4.1 Take advantage of some free health screening

Some doctors are concerned about mass health screening for the ‘worried well’ (as opposed to screening when there are symptoms). Our research suggests that screening which is minimally invasive (i.e. which doesn’t involve probing inside your body or X-raying it) can be worthwhile. Examples include BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure and (via your optician) glaucoma tests.

Practical tip – Where you don’t have any symptoms and health screening is invasive, discuss the pros and cons with your doctor.

4.2 Use Health Apps

The NHS now reviews health apps and lists those it considers helpful. It is probably too soon for long term research findings. However, anything which helps you pursue a healthy lifestyle seems worth considering.
